The House

Built in 1827 to replace an earlier country house, the elegant mansion at Sibton Park was designed as a classical ‘Gentleman’s residence’ for entertaining and comfort.

Inside, the spectacular ground floor Reception Rooms open up off the triple height entrance hall. The formal reception rooms include a beautifully proportioned oriental Drawing Room, its Chinese wallpaper of blossoming trees and birds dating back to around 1860. French doors open onto the glorious south facing terrace with views over the lake beyond and Morning Room overlooking the lake and park to the south. There is a magnificent Dining Room seating 22 comfortably and a Gentleman’s Library.

Beyond the attractive service door is a further dining room, ideal for long leisurely traditional English breakfasts which can be prepared and served for you by the resident staff or enjoyed as part of your self-catering break. The large Georgian kitchen complete with magnificent chandelier includes a traditional AGA, butler sink and farm table with seating for at least 14 people. Beyond this is the service kitchen which is set up for full scale catering with large fridges, freezers, dishwashers and commercial ovens and cookers. Sibton Park is equipped to cater for any occasion from intimate dinner parties to large functions of up to 100 guests.

Sibton Park offers a wide choice of catering options ranging from self-catering to butler service; there is an excellent chef (prior-booking essential) who will cater for a very special dinner party or meals throughout your stay.

A large party at Sibton Park may well include a smoker or two and the gun room can be used for smoking or simply to enjoy a relaxing drink after a day’s walking or shooting. There is a bar available (with honesty box) but once again a bar tender can be available (by prior arrangement).

Take the cantilevered stone staircase which rises from the hall to the first floor, above is the original lantern roof which lights the stairs throughout the day. Additional elegant staircases lead up to the rear of the house and the second floor. The original bedrooms are beautifully proportioned and the majority have a super king double / zip link bed as well as relaxing arm chairs and / or sofas. Each offers a wealth of individual textures, beautiful fabrics and sumptuous linens as well as far-reaching views of the Suffolk countryside. The old dressing rooms – most very little smaller than their adjoining bedrooms have been transformed into wonderful marble floored ensuite bathrooms, the majority of which include both walk in showers and roll top baths with hand held showers. No detail has been omitted, no expense spared and all eleven baths can be filled at the same time without a drop in the temperature of the water!

Sleeps

Sibton Park sleeps 24 in 12 double rooms. Ideal for a large party of adults, children are equally welcome and there is a further bunk bedroom which would be ideal for a couple of youngsters who want to be independent from, but reasonably close to their parents. There is plenty of space for a cot or even two in almost all of the double rooms. The Grounds

Surrounded by over 500 acres of private landscaped parkland, pleasure grounds and woodland rides, Sibton Park is utterly private and enjoys magnificent countryside views in every direction. Guests are welcome to roam the grounds and enjoy the myriad of footpaths which crisscross the larger estate. A selection of maps of Sibton Park is available in the house.

The long serpentine drive winds through the park and over the ornamental bridge; the drive is screened from the house by mature parkland trees and planting until the view opens up across the lake to the mellow stucco of the house and the monumental façade of the entrance front. Giant Ionic columns form a portico framing the front door. These repeat themselves as pilasters on each facade giving a dramatic scale to the elevations. The South and East facades face directly overlook the Parkland. The West elevation is enclosed by a giant Redwood and Cedar of Lebanon that creates a more intimate area with framed views up the Yox valley and to the distant spire of St. Peter's Church Sibton.

What to do

All kinds of wonderful activities are available during your stay at Sibton Park. If you are inviting guests from abroad you make want to take advantage of a flight from Battersea Heliport; your helicopter will land in the grounds of Sibton Park. Prices are dependent on waiting times but are in the region of £2,000.00. Once at Sibton Park a chauffeur driven car can be made available to take members of your party for a morning’s shopping in Southwold or a day’s golf.

A week or weekend at Sibton Park gives you the time to enjoy some new or much loved activities – archery and clay pigeon shooting lessons or a day’s shoot – pheasant, partridge and duck (two to three hundred birds). However if shooting is not your bag then you might enjoy a round of golf or golfing lessons at nearby. Halesworth Golf Course. This part of the Suffolk Coast is known as the Garden of Suffolk – find out more about the flora and fauna of the Suffolk coast - guided walks around the Sibton Park estate, RSPB Minsmere or Dunwich are all available. Activities must be booked in advance with the owners (full details available when booking your stay).

Sibton is just a mile or so west of Yoxford. The village is known chiefly for its abbey (only the ruins remain) the only Cistercian house in Suffolk. The church of St Peter is certainly not a ruin, however, and should be seen for its fine hammerbeam and collar roof.

The Sibton White Horse Inn is a delightful grade II listed free house (rebuilt in 1580!) serving excellent food and drink. The public areas never fail to amaze visitors with their feature inglenooks, heavy beams, old settles and collection of old agricultural implements. Weekly guest ales from breweries around Suffolk join local Adnams Bitter and Broadside, and there’s also a good choice of wines and whiskies available at the bar.

Aldeburgh is the home of music and the arts in general and the Snape Maltings Concert Hall, home of Aldeburgh Music is just a 20-minute drive away. Children will love a trip to Southwold where there is both a pier and sandy beach. Walberswick (home of the World Crabbing Championships) is also a firm favourite.
