Right on Thorpeness's sandy beach, there are fantastic views of the sea in one direction, the meare in the other. Have dinner at the comfortable dining table on the decking, or if you would prefer a camp fire atmosphere, there is a fantastic seated area right down by the beach with brazier and fixed wooden benches, ideal for an evening of star seaching and barbecued food.
Lie in bed and look over the balcony at the beach and the sea. Sit round the log burning stove and watch the waves foaming on the shingle. With all the creature comforts of contemporary living this is a holiday house to be enjoyed at any time of the year.
Ideal for any age group Sandy Lodge has comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms on both the ground and first floor. The garden is enclosed so ideal for younger children, with a gate leading from the garden onto the sandy beach.
Young or old there is lots to entertain with sailing, rowing, cannoeing, punting, tennis and golf all within a couple of minutes walk.
In the centre of Thorpeness is the Mere, a wildlife rich lake, with rowing boats, dinghies, and punts for hire. Thorpeness also has a country club with tennis courts, golf course, attractive pub and an excellent village shop. A riding stable in the next village will arrange hacks along the beach and across the beautiful Suffolk heathland countryside which surrounds Thorpeness and Aldeburgh.
Just a short walk along a seaside footpath will take you to Aldeburgh, home of the Aldeburgh Festival and the Freud Summer Theatre, where there are several excellent restaurants, pubs and lovely shops, as well as a fascinating museum, boating lake, sailing and yacht club. RSPB Minsmere, Dunwich and Southwold are all within a short drive.
