Local information: Southwold & Halesworth

We had an absolutely brilliant stay – a family get-together for 30th and 60th birthdays, children plus grandchildren! Southwold itself and the excellent weather was a bonus. The house was very comfortable and perfect for us and we’re already planning another visit. Perhaps you could convey our sincere appreciation to the owners. RT Cambridge

This superbly proportioned, traditional brick fronted mid Victorian town house lies in the heart of the Southwold conservation area. Reached through a gated private passageway from the street which opens onto the courtyard garden, the conservatory and thence through the hall and up to the first floor where lie the large and comfortable reception rooms. Central heating ensures it is warm and cosy in winter, and with large sash windows, many with sea views, the house is light and airy in summer.

Really well situated it is just a short stroll from arguably the best pub in town and close to both the beach and the high street. With sea views, a superb drawing room and beautiful furnishings throughout this makes an ideal property for a long lazy holiday or a weekend reunion with friends or family.

Home to Adnams brewery, Southwold boasts some of the best pubs as well as the best beers in the country. With a constant supply of fresh fish its restaurants are excellent. Add to this the newly renovated pier, a sandy beach, its brightly coloured beach huts all overlooked by the Southwold lighthouse and you are in for a treat whatever time of the year you might choose to visit. One of the most desirable holiday destinations in the country, Southwold has become a popular destination for the famous. Often described in the press as 'Hampstead on Sea' it is a frequent backdrop for films and TV dramas - much of the award winning film Iris was shot there. A popular haunt for artists and writers it is well known for its autumn literary festival and summer theatre.

  • Ground Floor

    • The entrance to Walton House is through a light and comfortable conservatory. With coffee tables and chairs, an ideal room for reading, afternoon tea or a quiet drink before barbecuing in the garden. The conservatory leads to a hall with coat hooks and plenty of space for boots and shoes.
    • A wide corridor with plenty of space for outdoor wear etc leads to the stairs
  • First Floor

    • The focal point of the spacious drawing room is the Victorian fireplace with antique over mantel mirror. A large bay window overlooks the street with views towards the sea. Carpeted with rugs there is a very large sofa, armchairs, occasional tables and lamps, a TV and video, some games, this is a lovely room for all the family.
    • The kitchen is a large, light and airy room with loads of cupboard and worktop space for even the most earnest cook. Washing machine, dishwasher, hob, built-in oven and large fridge-freezer, the finishing touch is achieved with the lovely Welsh dresser.
    • With its blue decor and bright dinner service, the dining room is very much a seaside room. The dining room is dominated by its stripped pine farmhouse table. Bench seats surround it on three sides with traditional wooden chairs on the fourth side, plenty of room for ten or more. There is a small serving table.
    • With views along the street towards the sea, this is another spacious and comfortable room with double bed, bedside table and lamp, original fireplace, large pine wardrobe and chairs.
    • A short flight of stairs leads to the family bathroom with bath and overhead shower, wash hand basin, w.c. and heated towel rail.
  • Second Floor

    • The twin room: Watch the waves hitting the sandy beach and stare across Southwold's rooftops from this twin bedded room with Victorian fireplace, bedside tables, chair and wardrobe.
    • The double bedroom has a lovely antique 4' 2" brass bedstead, chest of drawers and more of those wonderful views of Southwold.
    • Double bedroom 3 Another lovely room with double bed, bedside tables and lamps, wardrobe and Victorian fireplace and large sash window with view of the Southwold beach and sea beyond.
    • The second twin bedded room has two 2ft 6inch beds, bedside table and lamp and cupboard. The window has lovely views over Southwold's rooftops
    • A short flight of stairs leads down to the bathroom with bath and shower attachment, wash hand basin, w.c. and heated towel rail.
  • Outside

    • Outside the french doors of the conservatory is a very private patio garden, where you can dump beach toys and bikes. A great spot for a family barbecue.
    • Parking is in the street. There is limited parking directly outside the house, plus additional parking along the road and on the seafront. There is also a large car park around the corner.
  • Services

    • Bed linen, towels, central heating and lighting are provided
    • In consideration of other visitors please do not smoke in the house
    • A Good Housekeeping deposit of £250 is required with the full or final payment. This deposit is refundable as long as Booking Conditions are met.
    • You can now arrange a wonderful variety of catering options through Big House Holidays. Have a look at the menus and then book your catering through us. Our holidaymakers have been delighted with these companies MS Catering and Two Game Birds
    • Immortalise your special occasion with a photo album of your holiday
